Dr. Kalpit H. Devani, MD, FACP, FACG, FASGE

Leading from the Front: In the Suite and at the System Level

Dr. Kalpit Devani started his medical training at Tianjin Medical University and completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University. He served as Lead Resident during residency and Chief Fellow during his GI fellowship. After fellowship, he continued to build his procedural skills through hands-on training, mentorship from senior interventional endoscopists, and direct case experience in complex hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and luminal disease.

His clinical work focuses on the cases that most gastroenterologists refer out. Therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound, complex ERCP in patients with surgically altered anatomy, endoscopic suturing for weight loss and post-bariatric revision, and incisionless repair of perforations and fistulas. Many of these procedures used to require open or laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Devani performs them through a flexible endoscope with no incisions, which means shorter recovery, fewer complications, and patients getting back to their lives sooner. He performs more than 1,000 advanced procedures each year and has built a high-volume endoscopy program that works closely with surgery, oncology, and hepatology.

Outside the procedure room, Dr. Devani has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications in journals including Gastroenterology, Cell Reports Medicine, and Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He is invited faculty at national and international gastroenterology meetings, serves on committees with the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and reviews for major medical journals. His goal is to expand what is possible in interventional endoscopy and make that level of care accessible to more patients in his region.
